TESTIMONIALS

When I asked our sailmakers about Marine Shield this is what I got:

"It does give us the best finish from all the products we've tried"

"It leaves a nice and smooth finish"

"It is easy to apply and gives us the best finish"

North Sails – Nevada, USA

"I personally am most pleased with the product and will certainly use it on all boom furling mainsails and code0 sails etc. as applicable. I have had no complaints from customers who have used it dating back 3 years now in the Florida sun. Looks great!"

Gareth Griggs - ULLMAN SAILS FLORIDA USA – November 2023

KJL Sails had designed a new trim rope system for Naiad NZ about 4 ½ years ago using a new specialty short pitch woven Spectra rope supplied by Nautilus Braids. The natural colour of this fibre was a pale gold colour and although the UV resistance is OK on Spectra, it did have a tendency to fluff up with use.

We presented this product to Parky from Marine Shield to find a solution and find one he did. He suggested dip coating using Marine Shield. Parky explained that it was a jet black two pot paint system that would both alter the colour of the rope to a deep grey colour and extend its UV life. We developed a dip coating system and drying system and we were away. The product has exceeded our expectations providing us with a super strong method of trim attachment for our primary client.

Marine Shield has gradually altered the make-up of the coating resin to the point we now have a superior coating system at a reasonable price that is easy to use and extremely predictable.

The Case of the Painted Jib Tests show promise that a coat of paint can prolong the life of your genoa.

Tired of restitching, PS Tech Editor Drew Frye explored the possibility of UV protective coatings on various sail materials.

MARINE SHIELD The lone sail-specific paint in this test, Marine Shield lived up to our high expectations. Its performance in the flogging test was flawless. The coverage and appearance of this paint were very good, with very little light passing through. The only observable difference was higher gloss. Marine Shield is also slipperier, which should give it some advantage in furling and storage. The New Zealand product is not yet distributed in the U.S. Our Best Choice for sail paint. Hopefully, it will become more widely available.

“Naiad has been working with the Marine Shield product on our boat pontoons since 2012. The product has proved extremely worthwhile in protecting our coloured pontoons from the harsh UV here in New Zealand and Australia. We apply the coating to all our pontoons with heavy-pigment colours where boats are kept outdoors. It has solved the fading problems we were having before. The product is extremely hard-wearing and helps keep the pontoons looking clean and sharp. The team at Marine Shield are excellent to work with, and always go the extra mile. They’ve created a product that does exactly what it they say it does!”

“Marine Shield 101A used on the sails for the Baltic 107, June 2013 the written instructions given were clear and the process was explained well. The product was easy to handle and the application method was quick. The finish and end result was better than we expected, the sail had a nice, shiny finish. We found Marine Shield 101A quicker, easier to use and tidier than other products we have used. Overall it was a good experience and we were very satisfied with the result. We think that this is the Number 1 product to use for this purpose and will certainly be using it again.”

“I have never used a product like Marine Shield before, I really love the product. It is easy to use; the application method is simple and quick. It prolongs the life of the tubes and also makes them easy to clean. Marine Shield gives a fantastic resistance to chaffing and scratching. I can now offer my customers a much larger range of colour choices including special effects. I have already applied metallic colours to a number of boats which gave a great customised finish for the customers. I would certainly recommend this product.”
